Huge budget deficit hampering reforms

The Ministry of Agriculture had a deficit of about 100 million TL for 2015, Minister Erkut Sahli has said

In an interview with Kibris TV, Sahali pointed out that one third of the budget is covered by Turkey and noted that because the economic protocol for the period 2016-2018 has not been signed yet with Turkey, no funds have been received yet.

Sahali said that it would be possible to cover historic debts, but this will happen only by implementing the reforms included in the economic protocol for the period 2013-2015.

The minister argued that insufficient efforts had been made to fulfil the requirements of the protocol. He added that Turkey will not give resources “without something given in return”. Admitting that they have been deprived of resources by Turkey and had taken no steps towards making structural reform, Sahali said that they are waiting for Turkey’s money to meet their needs, but resources are not forthcoming because the promises given to Turkey have not been kept.
