Record cannabis haul

In the biggest drug raid recorded to date, TL40 million worth cannabis were seized on the 13th December.

The governor of Lice, a Kurdish district of Diyarbakır Province in Turkey, Mustafa Toprak, said that there had been combined police operations for two days covering four villages in the Lice region. There was air support for the ground force of 39 personnel and that numerous stashes were discovered. The stashes produced 21 tonnes of cannabis as well as bomb making equipment, weapons and ammunition.

Mr Toprak claimed that this operation was a serious blow to the terrorist PKK organisation. At his press conference, 7 trucks were displayed, full of seized goods. It was also disclosed that army helicopters provided support and that a number of specialist units had been involved, including dog units.

Three suspects were apprehended.
