Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu made a clear statement about the search for natural gas offshore Cyprus.
Regarding ExxonMobil’s plans to begin explorations offshore south Cyprus he said: “We have a drilling platform and we will start drilling. If they start in the autumn, we will go ahead.”
Cavusoglu emphasised that the policy of blocking will continue. An ENI drillship was prevented from reaching its destination offshore the island by the Turkish navy in February. “We will not allow it unless the rights of all parties are guaranteed. Of course, it is not always right to block them, and if the Greek side takes unilateral steps, this time we will start drilling,” the Turkish foreign minister said.
