North Cyprus News - Illegal tree felling - Bufavento

On social media, Esra Çelikeri shared photographs of dozens of trees on the road leading to the Bufavento Castle. She said that she had called the Forestry Department.

She wrote the following: “There is an open complaint to the Environment and Forestry offices. Dozens of trees were cut down on the road to Bufavento. And I’m sure the people who did this would do it again. If you put a camera at the entry and exit of this path, you will easily detect it. There is no other way. If someone does not take measures, there will be a serious tree massacre in that area … There are so many people trying to ruin our country which is the so-called tourism island … these people should get heavy penalties.”

Rapid expansion of building, fires and illegal tree felling have all contributed to the drastic reduction of tree numbers in North Cyprus.
