Thousands of Turkish and Greek Cypriots representing multiple civil society organisations marched on 1st May, Labour Day in the Nicosia buffer zone, gathering in Taksim Stadium, for the first time in 56 years.
The event, the first of its kind since 1958, was attended by Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Ozkan Yorgancioglu, former Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat and former Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias
General Secretary of PEO which organised the rally along with Turkish Cypriot union Dev-Is, Pambis Kyritsis said “We are here altogether tonight with a united vision for a common homeland”.
The celebration continued with live performances by Group Baria, Sol Anahtari, Kullis Theodorou and Arda Gunduz.
