IPC vital for solving GC property issues

The Immovable Property Commission (IPC) is performing an important duty by providing a foundation for a bi-zonal solution to the Cyprus problem, Speaker of the House Sibel Siber has said, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.

Dr Siber, who is also the CTP-BG’s presidential candidate said that the IPC, which was formed to either compensate Greek Cypriots who hold property in North Cyprus or arrange a swap for property in the South or a potential return is significant to the solution and could provide the drive to solve the property issue, “as property is one of the major elements of the Cyprus problem”.

She also added that Greek Cypriot propaganda which claims that “one day everyone will return to their homes”, is refuted by the IPC.

Dr Siber was speaking at a meeting with the head of the IPC Güngör Gürkan on Tuesday.

Gürkan said that as of Tuesday, there had been 6,007 applications made to the Commission, out of which over 500 had been completed. 150 applications had been withdrawn and several applications were for “returning the property after a solution”.
