The legal battle over the Isias Hotel, which collapsed during the February 6, 2023, earthquake in Turkey, continues. The fourth hearing will take place on Tuesday, October 22, at 10am at the Adıyaman 3rd High Criminal Court. The families of the ‘Champion Angels,’ tour guides who died, and the 10 injured survivors will attend, BRTK reported.

Around 100 people, including families of the victims, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, ministers, politicians, members of the Bar Association, and journalists, will travel to Adıyaman via Gaziantep to attend the hearing.

A total of 72 people, including 35 young Turkish Cypriot athletes and teachers, were killed when the Grand Isias Hotel in Adıyaman was destroyed by the earthquake, which affected 11 provinces and directly impacted 14 million people in Turkey. The death toll reached 53,537.

Hasan Esendağlı, President of the Turkish Cypriot Bar Association, spoke to the press ahead of the hearing. He noted that an expert report from 9 Eylül University is not yet ready, and the court is expected to grant a postponement. This report is crucial for examining the causes of the hotel’s collapse, including issues like the fake permit, non-compliance with the building project, and faulty structural calculations.

Esendağlı also highlighted that criminal cases are being prepared against public officials involved in granting permits to the hotel. Both the hotel owners and these officials are expected to be tried together.
