Israel hopes to sign gas deal with Turkey this summer

Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz stated that he hopes to sign an agreement with Turkey this summer, to supply natural gas via an undersea pipeline.

The pipeline which is planned to be constructed between the two countries, will be completed within three years, he said.

According to Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Kibrisli’, Steinitz said that a section of the 500-km pipe will pass via the “Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus” and that this can be done without requiring the permission of the Republic of Cyprus, since the pipe will pass through the “economic waters of the Greek Cypriots” and not across their terrestrial borders.
