A visit to the fenced-off town of Varosha/Maraş was arranged by the foreign ministry for accredited Turkish Cypriot journalists and members of the Foreign Press Union.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit is taking place in parallel with an ongoing inventory being taken of the town.
Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay said that this is the first time such a visit by journalists has taken place since 1974. “In this way the public will be informed in a better way about what is going on in the area”, he stated.
