Kalliopi Mavroyiannis, (R) the wife of Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis passed away yesterday at the young age of 53 after a long battle with cancer, ‘Cyprus Mail’ reports.
Mrs Mavroyiannis who was a beloved member of the Greek Cypriot community was a key member of the Cyprus Sailing Federation and served on the Board as the treasurer. Mrs Mavroyiannis, who was a teacher by profession, was also a member of the Board of Paralympics Committee.
Upon Mrs Mavroyiannis’ passing Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Özersay expressed his grief over the news: Özersay wrote: “I am deeply saddened today by the passing of Mrs Mavroyannis, wife of my counterpart and dear friend Andreas Mavroyannis. My condolences to my dear friend Andreas and his family.”
