The bi-communal Famagusta Initiative, has called on Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu, the Foreign Minister Ozdil Nami and Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Ozersay to abide by the joint declaration signed by the two sides in February, Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Afrika’ reports.
Speaking on behalf of the Initiative, Mertkan Hamit said that in the last few days various statements had been made by the Turkish Cypriot side which were contrary to the spirit of the joint declaration, adding that this is sad and creates unease in the on-going negotiations.
He also said that the judgement made by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordering Turkey to pay the Republic of Cyprus the total sum of 90 million euros shows how urgent the solution of the Cyprus problem is.
