Kib-Tek cancels low sulphur fuel order

Kib-Tek has cancelled its purchase of low sulphur fuel from local Turkish Cypriot company Kiymet Trading, following a dispute over the price.

According to ‘Havadis’, five companies tendered to supply fuel and Kiymet gave the lowest price. However, Kib-Tek’s Purchasing Commission was unaware that the price for the fuel was based on fluctuating exchange rates.

Environmentalists and locals are dismayed because of the ongoing pollution caused by the Teknecik power plant in Esentepe.

The local mayor has called on the government to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
