The Chamber of Electrical Engineers (EMO) issued a statement regarding the recent power outages in the country, emphasising the urgent need for maintenance and investment in Kib-Tek power plants to prevent future disruptions and ensure continuous and reliable electrical service for the public, Kibris Postasi reports.
The chamber urged Kib-Tek to take immediate action and expedite investments in energy infrastructure. In a written statement, Chairman Mehmet Toycan, on behalf of the EMO Board of Directors, expressed concern over the recent spate of power outages endured by the public, saying:
“According to information from the authorities, the primary causes of the power outages are a technical malfunction at the Teknecik Thermal Power Plant, which resulted in a 50 MW capacity loss, and another malfunction during updates to the gas turbines, leading to a further capacity loss. Combined, these issues caused a total capacity loss of 70 MW. The high temperatures have increased peak load demands, making power outages unavoidable“.
Toycan also highlighted that “the disparity between network voltage and load demand is growing, which is a critical issue that needs attention”.
EMO President Toycan continued:
“As the Chamber of Electrical Engineers, we stress the urgent need for maintenance and investment at Kib-Tek power plants to prevent further outages and ensure continuous and reliable electrical service for our citizens. We are open to all forms of cooperation to secure energy supply and provide high-quality service. We call on Kib-Tek to take the necessary steps and accelerate investments in energy infrastructure“.
