Kyrenia University opens new Sailing School

Kyrenia University has issued a press release about its newly-established Sailing and Water Sports School.

According to the press release the schools aims to provide courses for all age groups, junior to adults with all levels of experience – beginners to advanced.

Optimist, Laser and amateur Yachtmaster courses will be on offer. Course registration dates and programmes will be announced in the near future. Participants will be presented with certificates and licenses on completion of the course.

Sailing and Water Sports School Director Tümer Garip said that the objectives of the newly established school was to attract the interest of sea enthusiasts and provide training opportunity to enable them to reach the top of their potential through education and best practice, also to contribute to the development of water sports in the TRNC as an essential life skill, an integral part of health, and competitive sports.

He said that the Optimist sailing programme is designed for children aged 6–12. Qualified instructors will be present at all times. The Laser sailing course is for children aged over 13 years.

The amateur Yachtmaster certificate is designed for young people aged 18 and over. The course includes 11 days theoretical and 5 days practical training. An exam will be held and licenses given to successful participants.

The directors said that the university would be organising yacht rallies and other water sports events never before held in the TRNC.
