The border crossing at Derinya is expected to open before the one at Lefke, TRNC Minister for the Interior Teberruken Ulucay said on Tuesday.
Earth-moving works at both locations are already underway, and the road at the Derinya crossing point would be cleared by next week, Ulucay told Bayrak Radio.
Work at Lefke would take more time, he added, because the area would need to be cleared of mines before road widening can begin.
Both community leaders agreed to open two new border crossings on 28th May as part of confidence-building measures in tandem with the Cyprus negotiations. In addition a number of other proposed border crossing points have been proposed.
