TRNC President, Dervis Eroglu, on a visit to Famagusta’s Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Veterans Association, spoke of the upcoming Cyprus peace talks planned for October. He said the people of the TRNC have run out of patience on this issue and he felt the October talks will be the last chance for a negotiated settlement.
He said negotiations had been taking place since 1968 without any significant progress and that there was no topic that had not already been discussed. He feels that open-ended negotiations cannot continue for ever but that the situation could be concluded within 18-24 months given the right approach by the Greek Cypriots.
