Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), has condemned the insults and the threats made against President Mustafa Akinci on his Twitter account. He called on the police to carry out their duty. The police, on the other hand, said that they had received no complaint on the issue.
‘Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Yeni Duzen’ published some of the threats against Akinci, which said: “If you think of giving even a single stone from Cyprus to the Greek Cypriots, you will pay the price. Land taken with blood is given only with blood”.
Meanwhile, replying to a question after his meeting with President Anastasiades yesterday, Akinci said that the social media should be a place of free expression of ideas and not of insults, swearwords and death threats. Akinci called on the competent authorities to perform their duty and investigate these threats.
