Leaders meeting cancelled Anastasiades unwell

The leaders’ meeting scheduled for Monday has been postponed as President Nicos Anastasiades was admitted to the Aretaeio private hospital in Nicosia on Saturday after showing symptoms of gastroenteritis, a statement from the presidential palace said, ‘Cyprus Mail’ reports.

Anastasiades, 67, was kept in for observation and tests. A second announcement said Anastasiades’ meeting with Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu arranged for Monday morning has now been postponed.

“Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis and Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Ozersay are expected to schedule a new leaders’ meeting during their meeting on June 25th in the United Nations-protected area of the Nicosia airport,” a UN statement read.

Government spokesman Nicos Christodoulides told the newspaper that Anastasiades would remain hospitalised “at least over the weekend” as he is exhausted and needs to rest.
