President Akinci will begin discussions with President Anastasiades on the most problematic chapters in the Cyprus negotiations. The topics of property, security and guarantees will be discussed at the leaders’ meeting today (Friday), in the last session of intensified talks this month.
“This will be a first in-depth exchange of views by both leaders on the three issues, adding “this will be the start of a difficult discussion,” the South’s government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said.
President Anastasiades clarified that today’s meeting is not the final stage rather the beginning of an exchange of views “in order to see how each side addresses issues such as territorial adjustment and the issues of security and guarantees”.
Both community leaders are expected to schedule the next round of meetings in the Cyprus negotiations. The talks will continue until the UN General Assembly in September.
