During a parliamentary committee meeting discussing the budget for the Attorney General’s Office, CTP MP Sami Özuslu asked Deputy Attorney General Ahmet Varol about the ongoing fake diploma investigation. Varol revealed that “there is a case file at the police involving one individual whose parliamentary immunity would need to be lifted“, Yeniduzen reported.
Commenting on the matter via his personal social media account, Özuslu stated: “In the Budget Committee meeting, I asked Deputy Attorney General Mr. Ahmet Varol whether there were any case files at the prosecution or police regarding politicians whose immunity would need to be lifted in connection with the diploma scandal. Mr. Varol replied: ‘There isn’t one with us, but there is a file at the police involving one individual’”.
As a reminder, the fake diploma investigation, which began at the Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University, had led to the arrest of some political figures. However, investigations into certain individuals could not proceed because they were MPs and therefore protected by parliamentary immunity.
