TRNC National Olympic Committee (MOK) published a congratulatory message for Turkish Cypriot athlete Buse Savaşkan*, who won a place in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games which run from 26 July – 11 August, Kibris Postasi reports.
The statement signed by President Dursun Koç on behalf of the National Olympic Committee and the board of directors, read as follows:
“As our country and nation, we experienced one of our greatest proud days. Our athlete Buse Savaşkan has filled our nation with joy by earning the right to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games from the 28th place on the 32-person Olympic list in the women’s high jump section. As the TRNC National Olympic Committee, we would like to thank our athlete Buse Savaşkan, her family, her coaches, the TRNC Athletics Federation and the Turkish Athletics Federation, sponsors and everyone who made even the smallest contribution for bringing this joy and pride to our country. May our athlete’s path be clear and may she have plenty of luck!..”
*Buse Savaşkan aged 25 gained her first international experience in 2016 at the first European Junior Athletics Championships in Tbilisi, where she was eliminated from the heats with a clearance of 1.75 m. She also missed the finals at the 2019 European U23 Athletics Championships in Gävle, Sweden, with a clearance of 1.68 m. The following year, she finished fifth at the Balkan Indoor Championships in Istanbul with a clearance of 1.75 m, and sixth at the outdoor championships in Cluj -Napoca with the same height. In 2021, she won the bronze medal at the Balkan Indoor Championships in Istanbul with a clearance of 1.80 m.
Savaşkan became the Turkish champion in outdoor high jump in 2020 and indoor high jump in 2021. [Wiki]
