Christmas looks to be less than merry in South Cyprus as the Cyprus Red Cross is currently distributing around 3,500 food parcels containing essential basic foods to families in need.
The General Manager, Kais Neophytous said that in addition, about 1,675 food parcels had been distributed to cash strapped families, every month.
Increasing numbers of families are looking to the Red Cross for help and Neophytou emphasised that the Red Cross was willing to accept any kind of help.
He added that it appears that 2014 will become even more difficult for many people.
A few days ago, the Commissioner for Volunteering and Non-Governmental Organisations and the Cyprus Schools Parents Association notified the Red Cross that there are another 800 families that need help.
