Man Dies of Complications After West Nile Virus Infection

A 69-year-old man has died in North Cyprus from complications caused by the West Nile Virus.

The man who was admitted to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia on July 18, had been suffering from other serious health problems.

North Cyprus News - MosquitoThis was the second fatality linked to the virus in the north. Two more people with the virus are being treated in hospital while tests have been carried out on four others to determine whether they have contracted the mosquito-borne illness.

The first death from the West Nile Virus was on July 26. Hilmi Bolel, who was being treated at Nicosia State Hospital, died of cardiac and respiratory arrest.

In South Cyprus, an elderly man has died from the virus. The Greek Cypriot health authorities have recorded nine cases in total.

According to the public health services, four of the cases were recorded in South Nicosia, four on the Greek Cypriot side of Famagusta, and one in Larnaca.
