Minister Explains New Student Immigration Rules

North Cyprus News - Aysegul BaybarsInterior Minister Ayşegül Baybars has explained the new immigration rules concerning foreign students, who study or will study in the TRNC. The numbers of workers and students travelling to and from North Cyprus has increased, she said. Stating that the overall population of the TRNC is much higher than those who are citizens, Baybars said that for this reason, the control of people arriving in and leaving North Cyprus is very important.

She said that one of the issues about which there have been complaints for years now, is the registration of students in North Cyprus and added: “We are working together with the Ministries of National Education, of Labour and Social Security, the Health Ministry and the police immigration department. Now we are establishing a system that will come into effect after September 30, 2018”.

The minister explained that this system will be integrated with the systems of the ministries mentioned above and the police immigration department. She added that when a foreigner arrives in the TRNC under the status of student, he/she will be registered on arrival and at their university. The student will have to undergo a health check by the Ministry of Health and will also have to take their student permit to the Ministry of the Interior, Baybars said.

These control methods will enable the authorities to reduce the number of illegal students in the country, she said.
