Minority parties and unions call for restart to Cyprus talks

A group of minority political parties and trade unions have called on President Mustafa Akinci to resume the stalled Cyprus negotiations.

Representatives from the United Cyprus Party, the Communal Liberation Party-New Forces, the New Cyprus Party, the Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union and the Cyprus Turkish State Employees Union who gathered in front of the Presidential Palace this morning, read out a press statement which called on the two leaders to resume the talks and for the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades to rid himself of the influence of fascist elements.

We reject Enosis and Taksim. The future of Cyprus is a federation. Our call to President Akinci is to return to the negotiating table rather than travelling to Pakistan and for Mr. Anastasiades to free himself of the influence of fascist elements, to stop acting capriciously and to return to the negotiating table constructively to continue the talks from where they left off” the statement read.
