Oguzhan Hasipoglu, deputy with the National Unity Party (UBP) has refuted the claim that the Abdullah Pasha Foundation, said by the Evkaf to own Varosha/Marash, was closed down in 1933.
The Turkish Cypriot press has reported that the foundation had been paid a certain sum of money and closed down in 1933. However, Hasipoglu said that if any payment was made to the trustee of the foundation it was for rent. Otherwise, he wondered, why the British administration had continued paying rent to the foundation and why the Republic of Cyprus had also paid rent to the Abdullah Pasha Foundation until 1963?
