Murder Suspects Detained on Gun Possession Charges

Four men, who have been accused of murdering Ernesto Leonides in South Cyprus in a gang related crime and fleeing to Tatlisu, were remanded in custody again by a Famagusta Court.

The men – three Georgian nationals and one from the Czech Republic were found to be in possession of four pistols and bullets. While the suspects remain under arrest on charges of illegal possession of firearms. Police continue to investigate their links to the murder of Ernesto Leonides. It is believed that they have used false identity papers.

Alexis Moisidis, Jan Ponizil, Georgios Otzisvili and Pavlos Akritidis, who spent three days in detention, will be held for a further eight days with a court order.

According to Cyprus Mail, Leonides, a Greek national of Georgian extraction and a resident of Larnaca, was known to the greekk Cypriot authorities in connection with past cases involving unlawful possession of firearms and a murder that took place in Pyla village in the Buffer Zone in 2016.
