Property issue remains unresolved

The Cyprus negotiations will not be completed by January 2016, President Akinci’s spokesman Baris Burcu has said.

Referring to speculative reports in the Turkish Cypriot press, Burcu said: “Our wish and intention to reach a solution the soonest remain. I hope that the next couple of months will be used well and this stage will come”.

Burcu said that during the leaders’ meeting held on Tuesday, the main topic of discussion was property. He noted that they had not gained much ground on certain aspects. If the leaders feel it is appropriate, they will give more details after their final meeting of the year on 20th December, he said.

The president’s spokesman noted that officials from the IMF and the World Bank have met with the negotiating teams. They have said that they would be ready to contribute to the solution technically and financially. Burcu added that the foreign officials have been asked to work quickly and prepare for an early solution.
