A second ferry service between North Cyprus and Mersin, Turkey has begun operating, Kibris Postasi reports.
Citizens who were previously able to go to the TRNC by ferry from Taşucu will now be able to make the crossing at a more affordable price with the second ferry service opened in Anamur. The average travel time between Mersin and Cyprus has been reduced to just two hours.
The President of the Anamur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mehmet Tuna, explained that they put the 350-metre-long and 50-metre-wide Anamur Seaplane and Ferry Pier, which was renovated by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure with an investment of millions of liras in 2019, into operation under the ANTSO Denizcilik Turizm Ticaret ve Sanayi AŞ.
Noting that they had taken over the operating rights of the pier for 10 years, Tuna said, “Our passenger transportation services, which started between our Anamur district and TRNC-Kyrenia with our modern Piyale Paşa ferry before the Eid al-Adha from the Anamur Seaplane and Ferry Pier, have created great satisfaction among our students in TRNC, our TAF personnel on duty, our business people and our citizens who prefer the TRNC for a holiday“.
Tuna, who explained that there are also car ferry docking ramps at the pier, noted that negotiations will be held with alternative countries such as Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco in this context.
