A solar energy park, the largest on the island, will begin operations in April, according to the South’s Electricity Authority.
The park which is in Tseri, a suburb south of Nicosia, contains 12,000 photovoltaic panels which will produce 5,000 megawatt hours of electricity per annum and is predicted to save 3,6000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.
Construction of the park began in January 2014 at a cost of 3.3 million euro. The park will sell electricity at 8.6 cents per kwh.
