The construction of pedestrian bridge to provide a safe crossing place on the Nicosia-Famagusta dual carriageway has begun.
The zebra crossing, which has now been removed, at an accident black spot between Hamitköy and Haspolat roundabouts, was barely visible to drivers. The crossing had been the object of criticism by road safety experts for being “unsuitable and dangerous” for that location. On 8 November, a student was struck by a car when he attempted to cross the dual carriageway using the zebra crossing outside Cyprus International University.
A shuttle bus service for the students from the university campus to facilitate access to student accommodation at Haspolat has also been launched.
Additionally, a new bus stop for the Haspolat and Famagusta bus has now been constructed and works are also ongoing on the road.
