Construction of the new terminal for Ercan airport is continuing and is expected to be ready in 2018.
The renovated airport will cover an area of 170,000 square metres together with 128,000 square metres of covered parking space and will have a 530-metre tunnel with three lanes in both directions. The extended runway will be able to cope with the largest commercial aircraft.
Ercan’s new terminal will be able to serve up to 5 million people in the first phase and 7-8 million people later.
Minister of Public Works and Transportation Kemal Durust (pictured right) inspected the works at Ercan and stated that this will be the TRNC’s largest investment. “Our aim is to open the airport in 2018”, he said.
