A new Traffic Safety and Transportation Department is to be establised, Transport and Public Works Minister Tolga Atakan announced this week.
During the budget debate at the Assembly, he said that the new department would base its operations on an analysis of regional traffic accidents compiled in coordination with the police.
Atakan also unveiled plans to update the existing MOT system by setting up modern EU-standard inspection stations. These would be operated under a public-private partnership to check cars, commercial and heavy goods vehicles and motorcycles. A tender for which would be launched.
