The new US Ambassador to Nicosia Kathleen Dougherty held an event held at the Merit hotel in North Nicosia. She was formally congratulated on her appointment by uniformed high-ranking Turkish officers, Turkish daily ‘Milliyet’ reported today.
The newspaper also reported that security measures had been stepped up because of the presence of a large number of Greek Cypriots who were in the hotel casino that evening.
