Nicosia abandoned as shoppers queue to go south

With all the problems with living in Nicosia, residents are taking every opportunity to go South. The months of council strikes have taken their toll with rubbish strewn streets, sunken pavements and potholed roads. The recent heavy rains have worsened these conditions and there is no power to street lighting and park illuminations.

Both the Metehan and Lokmaci crossings have been busy and long queues have developed, with the number of shoppers in the main shopping centres almost equally Turkish and Greek Cypriots.
