Nicosia Council cannot meet again

Today a UBP party member Aktas Arif has resigned from Nicosia Council.

As all 10 opposition members of the Council Board have resigned in the past few weeks, this has left only a rump UBP Board of 12 members out of 22.

Given that 12 members is the minimum required under law for a quorum to hold meetings, following the resignation of Mr Arif for “health” reasons, this quorum cannot be reached. In effect, Nicosia Council which had last agreed to take on a TL 90 million loan from Ziraat Bank of Turkey, cannot meet in the future.
