The Nicosia Public Health Department as well as the police department are jointly checking that businesses have current work permits.
Department head, Leven Ozverel said that routine inspections would be more frequent and that two workplaces had been closed yesterday because their work permits had expired.
He pointed out that all businesses within the council boundaries would have to renew their work permits after December 31st 2012. Those that had not done so were operating illegally and must renew their permits immediately.
