Nicosia: food hygiene campaign launched

The Public Health Department of Nicosia council has mounted a food hygiene inspection campaign of commercial premises.

Following which, they have confiscated and destroyed hundreds of yoghurt and cheese products and have begun legal proceedings against a number of workplaces for breaking hygiene rules.

Nicosia Council has disclosed that 243 work premises have been inspected and that shop owners whose premises or goods fall below standards have either had their goods confiscated or been closed down.

Over the last ten days, two restaurants have been closed down for health reasons. In addition another seventeen workplaces have been shut because they did not have operating licenses.

A cheese making business has had 1605 kg of cheese destroyed because they amended packaging to show that the expiry date had not been reached.
