Recalling that he had deliberately brought this issue to the agenda in the past and faced questions about his intentions, Mayor Harmancı emphasised, “I am trying to make life easier; what other purpose could I have!”
In his opinion, the best location for the new crossing would be to open a gate at the point known as the Küçük Kaymaklı bypass road. He stated, “This is the best option for both the south and the north”.
Harmancı believes that all alternatives should be considered and is not opposed to opening a border crossing point in Haspolat. However, he questioned why the new border checkpoint should be exclusively commercial, arguing that it should serve both commercial and civil purposes.
Highlighting infrastructure projects such as the €1 million investment in Dereboyu and the installation of an 800-watt solar energy system in Haspolat, Harmancı explained, “We received a bid for the terminal, but it extended beyond the planned area. Therefore, if this does not work, another tender will be launched”.
Harmancı also emphasised that they are one of the best municipalities in addressing the mosquito problem.
