Nicosia Turkish Municipality Mayor Mehmet Harmancı and Greek Cypriot Mayor of Nicosia Constantinos Yiorkadjis met with the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar (l).
The meeting was held at the Cooperation House at the buffer zone upon the invitation of the UN Special Representative Spehar.
At the meeting, Spehar spoke to the two mayors about the latest stage of the negotiations on the Cyprus problem.
Both mayors also informed Spehar about the ongoing projects in Lefkoşa and emphasised that projects which benefit citizens’ lives should be supported.
In his statement regarding the meeting, Harmancı said:
“If we are moving towards a comprehensive settlement, local administrations will be most affected by this. While the leaders are reaching a conclusion, as the local administrators, we should act with awareness of our role in this new structure.”
