No Common Ground For Talks: Tatar

UNSG's Personal Envoy Holguin Cuellar - President Tatar

President Ersin Tatar met with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Representative, Marian Angela Holguin Cuellar in London. The meeting, held at the TRNC London Representative Office, lasted for one hour, BRTK reports.

President Tatar was joined by Special Representative Güneş Onar.

In a statement to the Turkish Agency Cyprus correspondent following the meeting, President Tatar reiterated the Turkish Cypriot side’s stance on the Cyprus problem and expressed his gratitude to Holguin for her efforts in seeking common ground.

Tatar noted that it is evident there is no common ground at present, and Holguin would present her report to the UN Secretary-General on July 10.

Tatar further mentioned that Holguin has observed a further decline in common ground since taking office. He emphasised that the uncompromising stance of the Greek Cypriot leadership prevents any new process from starting on the Cyprus issue.

The President also addressed recent developments regarding property, stating that the solution lies with the Immovable Property Commission (IPC).

Tatar criticised the Greek Cypriot leadership for its deterrent activities against investors in the construction sector in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, describing it as an organised attack using the judiciary as a tool. He conveyed these concerns to Holguin.

He expressed his disappointment over this issue, emphasising that the Immovable Property Commission, recognised by the European Court of Human Rights, is the appropriate body for property applications.
