The General Assembly of the European Parliament rejected a proposal to allow the TRNC to have observer status.
Most delegates had approved the proposal to give two TRNC representatives observer status. South Cyprus and Greece objected.
However, the proposal will now be moved up to the Presidential Cabinet where it stands a better chance of being passed.
