No Harm in Discussing ‘Loose Federal Model’

North Cyprus News - ErhurmanThe Turkish Cypriot side will not be fooled into accepting attempts to preserve the status quo through the debate initiated by Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades regarding a possible “loose federation model”, Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman has said.

The Prime Minister, posted on social media that there would be no harm in discussing a possible federal structure which comprised a weak federal government and strong constituent states, providing this debate was carried out with good intentions.

“This debate does not change what we are proposing…that is a formula that will allow us to reach a settlement using a new and proper method, not through open-ended but result-oriented talks”, he wrote.

Ehurman also said that progress could be achieved in a short time period through changes that could be made under the heading of ‘authorities and competencies’.

“However, the Turkish Cypriot side will not be deceived into accepting ill-intentioned attempts to forget the progress reached at Crans-Montana or to preserve the status quo by prolonging the process”, he added.
