The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation is working in cooperation with the Union of North Cyprus Insurance and Reassurance Companies regarding common information sharing and has prepared an agreement to be signed with the union to this end.
According to the agreement, which should be implemented in mid-September 2018, owners who haven’t paid their road tax fee will not be allowed to insure their vehicles.
In order for vehicle owners to get yearly insurance, they will have to pay their road tax debts which information will be run through the system by the Insurance Information Centre (SBM).
Owners who haven’t paid their road tax but wish to insure their vehicles will be given a one-off one month temporary insurance and asked to pay-off their road tax debts in order to get annual insurance for their vehicles.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation and the SBM advises owners who have outstanding road tax debts to pay their fees as soon as possible and not risk driving without insurance.
Due to the disruption of moving offices to the former KTY building and the nine-day Bayram holiday, the deadline for vehicle owners whose road tax was due by the end of August was extended to September 14, without penalty. [Ed.]
