No vote to UK military strikes against Syria

The British High Commission in Cyprus has said that the deployment of interceptor aircrafts in Akrotiri constitutes a purely precautionary measure to ensure the protection of UK interests and the defence of the Sovereign Base Areas.

A High Commission Press Office’s representative referred to statement made earlier today by a representative of the British Ministry of Defence.

“We can confirm that as part of ongoing contingency planning, 6 RAF Typhoon interceptor fast jets are deploying to Akrotiri in Cyprus.

This is purely a prudent and precautionary measure to ensure the protection of UK interests and the defence of our Sovereign Base Areas at a time of heightened tension in the wider region”, said the representative.
