North Cyprus popular destination for Russian tourists

Last year, 15,000 Russian tourists visited North Cyprus, with half of them staying in accommodation, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Faiz Sucuoglu has said.

Speaking at the MITT Moscow Tourism Fair which ran from 23-26 March, he said that it was the first time that Turkey had not taken part in the fair. This was because of a cooling of relations between Moscow and Ankara, which has impacted Russian tourism numbers to Turkey and the TRNC.

Normally invited every year, Turkey was not present at the fair, however, this time North Cyprus had a stand in place of the mainland.

Sucuoglu added that he had met with German tourists at the fair, who had shown great interest in visiting North Cyprus.
