North Cyprus will cease producing its own electricity in future

The Turkish Cypriots will no longer be producing their own electricity once electric power is supplied to the north by undersea cable from Turkey, Energy Minister Sunat Atun has said.

Speaking on Genc TV, Atun noted that the AKSA Company will also “not be in the long-term picture” as “we import 160 thousand tons of diesel by sea and AKSA brings so much”.

Anticipating an accident which will damage the environmental, he said, “We need to get rid of this system before a tragedy happens one day.”
