The Nurses and Midwives Union yesterday announced that they will begin strike action from the end of January.
They will give the government until the end of the month to fill the vacant nursing positions.
The head of the union, Oguz Kose told the press yesterday that the two new departments opened yesterday at the Kyrenia state hospital (Akcicek) did not have sufficient nurses and midwives allocated to it.
He warned that all his members will come out on strike and questioned why new services were being announced without adequate staffing.
Mr Kose stated that under-manning had been a problem for months with some 250 unfilled vacancies. Unless the government filled these slots, his union members would start shock strike action.
