A man appeared at Kyrenia court yesterday accused of the attempted murder of Kevin Browne (57).
The accused, Akbash Baku (33) claimed in court that Mr Browne met him in an empty field near the Kyrenia new harbour and made sexual advances towards him.
Police testified that Mr Abbas stabbed Mr Browne repeatedly in the stomach and back as well as across his face.
Mr Abbas used an 8 inch long blade and has been charged with attempted murder. Mr Browne was taken to Nicosia state hospital where he had surgery last night. His condition is still critical.
Police inquiries are continuing though it is understood that they have found the knife used in the attack.
