Chief Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Özersay has announced that he will be running in the presidential elections in April 2015, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.
Admitting that he has been considering running for office, for some time, Özersay said that he had made his final decision and that he will follow the necessary procedures when the application process starts.
Özersay also said that he will continue to serve as negotiator until the Supreme Election Commission announces the official start of the election calendar.
“Until that day comes I will do whatever my position requires. There were many cases in the past where presidents, prime ministers ran for the president while still serving for their current positions at the time. Of course my decision doesn’t mean that I will start campaigning while serving as the negotiator. I will carry out my duty as I have been doing so far with the same seriousness. Of course if Mr President has a different opinion he will make the necessary decision accordingly” said Özersay.
